Read the metrics, check their limits. All venture records and outcomes are invented; EWG Deal Room is an illustrative application.
About this demonstration dataset
Dataset portfolio-v1 · 120 invented ventures · Fixed generation seed 20261021 · Reference date 21 October 2026. The sector mix is constructed, not representative of Ghana’s actual economy.

Synthetic demonstration data
What it means
Every venture, founder, financial event and employment observation is invented. EWG Deal Room is an illustrative programme application of an independent Ridtech Labs platform.
How it’s calculated
The versioned portfolio has 120 ventures, 60 per cohort. Its sector mix is constructed, not a measurement of Ghana’s economy.
What it doesn’t tell you
Photographed people are not represented as participants or beneficiaries. No generated outcome is an actual EWG result.
Ventures
Portfolio ventures
What it means
The distinct startups matching your selected cohort, sector and search filters.
How it’s calculated
Count each matching venture once, including ventures with no investment or employment observations.
What it doesn’t tell you
A missing financial record is not evidence of failed fundraising.
Illustrative USD
Committed investment
What it means
The amount promised in recorded commitments, distinct from money received.
How it’s calculated
Sum commitments dated within the inclusive investment window and on or before Data as of. Without a window, sum cumulatively to the cutoff.
What it doesn’t tell you
USD is illustrative; there is no FX conversion, instrument valuation or inferred return.
Illustrative USD
Received investment
What it means
Actual recorded instalments received against commitments in this synthetic dataset.
How it’s calculated
Sum receipts by receipt date within the inclusive window and cutoff. A receipt can count even when the commitment predates Investment from.
What it doesn’t tell you
Never add received amounts to commitments. Receipts cannot exceed their associated commitment or precede its date.
Persons
Observed headcount
What it means
The latest recorded employment headcount after cohort start and on or before the data cutoff.
How it’s calculated
Sum available current observations only. With no observations, report Not reported rather than zero.
What it doesn’t tell you
Counts persons, not full-time equivalents. Latest recorded does not necessarily mean recent.
Signed change in persons
Observed net employment change
What it means
The change between baseline and current headcount where both observations exist.
How it’s calculated
Current minus baseline. A baseline of 5 and current of 3 gives −2. A baseline of 0 and current of 0 gives 0.
What it doesn’t tell you
A net change is not gross hiring, causal programme impact or verified jobs created. Missing either observation means no calculated change.
Observed ventures / matching ventures
Employment coverage
What it means
Shows how much of the filtered portfolio has current, baseline and matched observations.
How it’s calculated
Matched pairs have both observations. Missing baseline and missing current are counted separately and can overlap.
What it doesn’t tell you
Partial totals describe the observed subset. Do not extrapolate them to unobserved ventures.
Persons at an observation date
Employment baseline
What it means
The latest recorded snapshot on or before cohort start, also on or before the data cutoff.
How it’s calculated
A snapshot at cohort start is eligible as a baseline. A baseline alone is not a current observation.
What it doesn’t tell you
Missing baselines are never imputed as zero.
Inclusive UTC calendar date
Data as of
What it means
The latest event date included in the view.
How it’s calculated
Include financial and employment observations on the selected day; exclude later events. Cohorts starting after the cutoff are excluded.
What it doesn’t tell you
The default dashboard cutoff is today in UTC. The homepage intentionally uses a fixed, displayed snapshot date.
Inclusive event dates
Investment from / Investment to
What it means
Optional start and end dates for financial event totals.
How it’s calculated
Filter commitments by committed date and receipts by received date. Both boundaries are included; the end cannot exceed Data as of.
What it doesn’t tell you
These dates do not restrict employment observations, which use the data cutoff.
USD grouped by event month
Event-month investment chart
What it means
Separate bars show commitments and receipts for months containing recorded financial events.
How it’s calculated
Sum eligible commitment and receipt amounts into their respective calendar months.
What it doesn’t tell you
The horizontal axis is categorical: months are not equally elapsed periods. Omitted months are not interpolated, and bars are not cumulative.
Common date cutoff
Cohort comparisons
What it means
Compare the synthetic 2025 and 2026 EWG Deal Room cohorts, or select a specific cohort.
How it’s calculated
Apply the same financial window and cutoff to every selected cohort; show employment coverage alongside totals.
What it doesn’t tell you
Cohorts have different ages at a common calendar cutoff. This is not an equal-age performance evaluation.
Primary sectors
Creative sectors
What it means
Each venture has one primary sector: Fashion, Film and media, Music, Craft, Design or Games.
How it’s calculated
Count distinct sectors among matching ventures. The manifest totals are 30, 24, 20, 18, 16 and 12 respectively.
What it doesn’t tell you
This allocation is a design assumption, not Ghanaian industry statistics or a multi-sector attribution model.
All matching records
CSV exports
What it means
Exports include every matching page, the selected source and filters, and a synthetic-data notice.
How it’s calculated
Money stays as exact decimal strings. Blank employment values mean missing data; numeric zero remains zero.
What it doesn’t tell you
Multiple page requests are not a database snapshot across concurrent admin edits. Text cells are protected against spreadsheet formulas.
